Spitting Ink – A Documentary About Poetry
Once upon a time being a poet was the shit!! Romantic, abstract, sometimes non-cohesive scribbles could move millions of people and most of them would memorize these poems and recite them like we do music lyrics now. So many years later poetry is back, although in a different form, it’s still as strong and moving as it used to be.
Spoken word is this poetry subculture and it has grown up around a group of young, mostly non-white spoken-word artists. The documentary Spitting Ink, by our friend Ralph de Haan, is a portrait of some of these artists. Interviews and live performances are interspersed with images of the streets of New York. Traveling around the world screening at various festivals! For dates and times check the Facebook Page!
