Once upon a time being a poet was the shit!! Romantic, abstract, sometimes non-cohesive scribbles could move millions of people and most of them would memorize these poems and recite them like we do music lyrics now. So many years later poetry is back, although in a different form, it’s still as strong and moving as it used to be.

Spoken word is this poetry subculture and it has grown up around a group of young, mostly non-white spoken-word artists. The documentary Spitting Ink, by our friend Ralph de Haan, is a portrait of some of these artists. Interviews and live performances are interspersed with images of the streets of New York. Italian Photographer Massimo Vitali

I’ve been wanting to post this piece about Italian photographer Massimo Vitali for over five months now, but I just couldn’t get to it. Still I didn’t want to keep it from you and I truly hope you like it as much as I did!

Massimo Vitali was born in Como, Italy, in 1944, studied Photography at the London College of Printing and started working in the early Sixties as a photojournalist. This photo is part of his series of Italian beach panoramas that depicted a “sanitized, complacent view of Italian normalities, at the same time revealing the inner conditions and disturbances of normality: its cosmetic fakery, sexual innuendo, commodified leisure, deluded sense of affluence, and rigid conformism.” Amen, Signor Vitali!

It has finally arrived: The IMDb iPhone App!!!

You might think I’m a big nerd for being so happy with an iPhone app and you might be totally right. When I watch a movie I have to have my IMDb details with me or else I just go crazy. ‘Where do I know this actor from?’, ‘What other movies did this director direct?’ or ‘How old is this girl and is there any possibility I could still breakthrough in Hollywood and date her?’

I used to have to watch movies half screen or make VLC float on top so I could still get all this crucial information while playing the movie from IMDb, but now… the IMDb iPhone Application!! And they didn’t just transfer it cheap-ass style to the iPhone. No, they actually added quick links to the IMDb Top 250, Bottom 100, the MOVIEmeter, the STARmeter, the most popular movies listed by genre, the most popular TV shows and the US Box office results!

You thought that was it?! Think again. The app also has movie trailers, quotes, trivia & goofs and you have your search history! The only thing missing are the awards, but hey there’s always the Update! My life is perfect now!!!

ChatRoulette 101 by Casey Neisat!!

The social technology hit of 2009 must be ChatRoulette for me! A lot of big magazines and newspapers have written about the phenomenon already but I just wanted to share this cool video by Casey Neisat with those of you who still don’t know what it is! At Chatroulette you chat with random strangers for webcam-based conversations. At any point, either user may leave the current chat and initiate another random connection. This is called Nexting!!!!

And just so you start your day feeling like you have really wasted your life, the site was created by boywonder Andrey Ternovskiy, a 17-year-old high school student from Moscow! Pretty tough for him though to top this accomplishment that got him to Good Morning America, The New York Times, and New York Magazine. Good Luck Andrey with the rest of your life!

Lastik Pabuc in the Coolest Guide: Istanbul Keşif Rotaları!!

After the Istanbul Lonely Planet, Wallpaper*, and Time Out edition we know have an all-Turkish guide to Istanbul: Istanbul Keşif Rotaları!! This indie guide to our favourite metropolis in the world is written (in Turkish) by the lovely crew from Pukka Living and the wonderful pictures are by Axel Öland!

Of course it’s an honor for us at Lastik Pabuc to be part of such a cool book that shows all the undiscovered places of this gigantic city. Besides LP, there’s also space for trendy galleries, nice cafes, good restaurants, and other cool shops! Diesel’s Brilliant ‘Be Stupid’ Advertising Campaign!!

It’s been a while now since the Diesel ‘Be Stupid’ Campaign launched and I bet most of you out there have seen the gigantic billboards all over your city! Diesel is known to be on point with their previous ads, but this campaign has a brilliant touch by critiquing society!

The London branch of ad agency Anomaly has captured the whole ideology in this video that includes music from We Have Band! All the printed ads that accompany the ‘Be Stupid’ campaign can be seen at equally brilliant Turkish website Süt Kutusu!!
